Since 2003, Sharp has maintained solar module operations at our manufacturing facility in Memphis, TN. Nearly 400 employees proudly manufacture, test and perform quality control measures at this ISO 9001-certified, 160 megawatt capacity plant, where we produced our two-millionth solar module in June, 2010.
In addition to creating “green collar” factory jobs, all Sharp solar products* sold in the United States qualify as American goods under the “Buy American” clause of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). *Please see links below for specific terms, conditions and exceptions for Japanese made thin-film modules.
Sustainability Guides our Actions
A production facility befitting an environmentally-advanced company, the Memphis, TN factory earned the internal award of “Super Green” status in April, 2009. Since the 1990s, Sharp’s “Super Green Strategy” has established environmentally sustainable domestic and overseas manufacturing systems and maintained the corporation’s position as a leader in manufacturing. Corporate activities are continually monitored, controlled and scored against stringent environmental performance objectives. As result, all Sharp manufacturing plants worldwide are ISO 14001 certified for environmental compliance.
As an environmental steward, Sharp extends its industry leadership by encouraging other organizations to go beyond their legal environmental requirements to further protect our earth’s precious resources.
