You would probably never guess how Sharp got its start. Sharp's founder, Tokuji Hayakawa, opened a small company in Japan in 1912. His earliest products? A belt buckle and a mechanical pencil! He achieved great success despite tremendous personal and professional tragedies throughout his life. He received little formal education and learned mostly by actually doing. And early on in his career he developed a philosophy that is part of Sharp's culture today - Develop new products and stay one step ahead of the competition.
