LAS VEGAS, NV, January 7, 2008 -- Sharp, an innovator in flat-panel Liquid Crystal Display Television technology, is introducing a new networking solution that enables users to send high-definition data to their Internet-ready televisions, computers or other peripheral devices through the home’s existing power lines. Using Sharp’s Powerline Communication (PLC) adapters, networked home products receive high-speed audio and video content via a PLC connection, eliminating the need for messy wires required for an Ethernet connection or the security risks that can accompany a wireless network.
“As the home becomes more connected, there is a pressing need for simplified and secure ways to build a reliable network,” said Bob Scaglione, senior vice president and group manager, Product and Marketing Group, Sharp. “Using the most pervasive home wiring medium – power outlets – Sharp’s PLC adapters provide consumers with the best and safest solution for high-quality content distribution.”
A perfect complement to the new AQUOS® SE94 LCD TV models featuring the AQUOS Net Web-based functionality, Sharp PLC adapters add flexibility to the networked home, available as single port (HN-VA100U) and 4-port adapters (HN-VA400U). For ultimate convenience, Sharp offers a starter pack that bundles a single port and 4-port adapter into one package (HN-VA401SU) so users can get started right away. With a two-step installation, PLC home networks are far easier to install than alternative networking methods that may require installers and in-wall cabling. Consumers can simply connect the AQUOS Net-enabled TV or other home product to a Sharp PLC adapter and plug in the adapter to an existing wall outlet for instant power and connectivity. Users can also connect multiple devices, such as TVs, set-top boxes, gaming consoles, PCs, and routers, using Sharp’s PLC adapters wherever there are power outlets in the home.
Not only do Sharp’s PLC adapters provide easy-setup and multiple access points, but they also offer stable communication with an industry best, high-speed connection of 85 Megabits per second (Mbps). Additionally, Sharp’s PLC networks achieve one of the highest levels of security with a government-adopted AES 128-bit encryption, ensuring data passes safely through the network.
Universally supported, these Sharp PLC adapters are based on the HomePlug® AV international standard for high-speed transmission over electrical power wiring, established by the HomePlug Powerline Alliance, the industry consortium that creates global specifications for high-speed networking products and services. Sharp is a primary contributor to PLC standard development and a sponsor member of the HomePlug Powerline Alliance.
