Sharp & the Environment

sharp partners with environmental programs

The industry leadership of Sharp extends to a number of partnerships and organizations that encourage our own company and others with strong environmental records to go above and beyond their legal environmental requirements.

2012 Energy Star Most Efficient
ENERGY STAR®

ENERGY STAR® is a voluntary Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy program to promote energy efficient products. ENERGY STAR qualified models are those with advanced technologies that use less energy than the standard products in their categories. Sharp manufactures ENERGY STAR qualified models in a wide range of products without sacrificing the reliability and features customers expect.

Plug-In to E-Cycling Program
Plug-In to eCycling Program

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's "Plug-In to eCycling" program has been a voluntary partnership with electronics manufacturers, retailers, recyclers and government agencies to reduce the environmental impact of electronic products during production, use, transport, recycling and disposal. The EPA recognized Sharp for its achievements for 7 years, including as a founding participant since the program's inception in 2003, culminating with "Winner" in 2009. Sharp co-founded MRM Recycling in 2008 and provides nationwide e-waste recycling, while continuing to participate in the EPA's current efforts to develop the Electronics Challenge under EPA's new Sustainable Materials Management program.

SmartWay Transport Partnership
Energy Efficient Product Transportation

Sharp was one of the 1st members of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWaysm Transport Partnership program. This voluntary alliance establishes incentives for fuel efficiency improvements and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions through creating partnerships, reducing unnecessary engine idling and increasing the efficiency and use of rail and intermodal operations. The EPA recognized the Sharp legacy of environmental responsibility with its "SmartWay Excellence Award" in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
